installed: renfrow part 2

up next is part 2 of the renfrow’s install, the kid’s playroom! with a newborn, 2 little girls & many playdates, the couple wanted a space downstairs devoted to the kids. they wanted a space where they could play but still be supervised, so I suggested their current ‘office room’ mainly because of the french doors… I thought this was a great feature because you can just close the doors after play time and not have to worry about a mess being visible. they were game for doing a little switcharoo (more on the office later) and the new playroom space was created.

the challenges for this space were storage, lighting & spacing. I needed to create storage for all the toys, so I had my carpenter custom build 2 cabinets that could house everything kid related. I incorporated a cubby system with bins for books that could also double as a bench, and I created an art display for the big kids to hang their creations. the lighting was easy.. since the outlets were controlled by the light switch, I used 2 large lamps on each storage cabinet and voila! an instantly brighter room. and lastly, spacing… the couple wanted to use a small scaled sofa in the room that had a sleeper feature for overnight guests… land of nod had a great option for them, the twin sleeper is the perfect size & scale for the room!

I love how all of the colors play off each other, and Tracie admits this is her favorite room in the house! take a look at how fun this room turned out!!

a perfect space for these little ones… and later when they out grow the kid table, this can still be a cool lounge for them. up next is their office since I kicked Stephen out of this one 🙂
