Once Beth and I decided on the designs for the rooms on her phase 1 priority list, she decided she wanted me to start with ideas for her phase 2 list. I tell people all the time, that once you start working with a designer, its hard to stop. Your rooms get to looking so good, its a spiral and one thing leads to another. But this is usually after the rooms are installed. I am glad Beth trusted my vision, knowledge and competence to get these rooms done to her expectations. Phase 2 consisted of the breakfast room, home office and boys hangout. Let’s take a look…
Breakfast Room: this room opens up to their new screened porch and it desperately needed some lightening up! Beth wanted a cozy beach feel in here and I gave her just that..
the space before was not ready for family dinners, and the stools were a catch all for Brian’s jackets and the kids belongings. I suggested getting new stools that tuck under the bar and out of the way. This would allow extra room for the table & chairs. a new paint color, new light and window treatments definitely make this space feel finished off.
Home Office: this is another space that you first see when you enter the Belcher’s home. Beth wanted to spruce this room up so it felt more finished. I suggested we keep the desk and loose the other odd pieces and invest in a new substantial file cabinet complete with lamps and a mirror for a focal point. We also installed floor to ceiling draperies for a warm touch.
Boys Hangout: Beth really wanted to give her boys a space they could call their own, somewhere they could hang out with friends and play video games, watch movies, etc, out of the pretty living room downstairs 🙂 so in here we did an apartment size sofa, wallpapered the back wall for interest, installed cornices on the windows and gave them a new sleek media cabinet. I think eventually there was talk about a foosball table going in here…. cool!
I really enjoyed working with Beth and her family, I hope they will enjoy their ‘new’ home for many years to come. hopefully there will be some more projects to complete in the future, like that screened in porch, wink wink….
until next time….
design swell. live well…
