This amazing transformation from boring to Barbie dream home all started when my client was house hunting. My
personal home was on the market and after touring it with her husband, she fell in love with my magenta kitchen
cabinets. Although my home wasn’t the right fit for them, she reached out for my help when they found a contemporary
house in need of some updating.

When my clients purchased their home, there was a quaint, stand-alone building in the back yard that functioned as an
art studio for the originaL homeowner. It was a basic, all white space with a sink and a full bathroom. My client works
from home and wanted to convert this into her home office, and potentially a guest suite when needed. Since she had
already started calling this her Barbie dream house, color was definitely on the agenda. The bathroom needed a
complete overhaul that started with replacing the prefab shower with metallic fabric-backed glass tile. All the walls
were dressed in a bold wallpaper with metallic gold details, and a stunning mint green concrete sink added some
texture to the glam. It turned into a very sophisticated space

In the main room, which I call the lounge, I ripped out the old cabinets and created a stunning new wet bar. The bold
teal paint is punctuated with malachite and polished brass hardware, but the main focus is the custom backsplash. These
pieces are actually back painted acrylic panels I commissioned a local artist to create. They add so much depth and
color to the room. The walls stayed white, but I took the cabinet color and lightened it up to go on the ceiling. Vintage
furniture pieces complete the lounge and a new writing desk is tucked in the back. Adding rattan elements balances the
light oak floors and warms up the space. Now my client has a home office she loves working from and a swanky
entertaining space that showcases her bourbon collection.
