on the boards…Carr Den

i had the pleasure of working with Susan and Dan Carr on their front room, which i will be sharing those install pictures very soon!  i was so excited when Susan asked me to make over their den, which is another skinny and long space.  i had some tricks up my sleeve on how to make it feel more intimate; keep reading…

the space needed some ‘oomph’ and because it was adjacent and open to their kitchen, i considered the pale blue walls of sherwin williams rain in the den’s palette.

dan loves orange, so this fabric was the perfect jumping off point for the entire room. it’s bold, fresh and is exactly the pop the den needs!

there must always be some supporting fabrics to really pull a scheme together

as i mentioned, this room is narrow and long. as an architect, i typically like starting with a space plan. furniture placement is key to making the room feel intimate, not overcrowded. take a look…

keeping in mind the scale of the furniture, i threw in a few unexpected elements. this round bookshelf divides the room, but keeps the sight lines open. we now have a cozy den and a library nook.

stay tuned, it’s going to be great!
