it’s a new year, why not show your home some love with a mini makeover?
your front door is an important part of the curb appeal of your home. you don’t have to replace it, giving your door a boost can be as easy as giving it a coat of paint.
got your paint brush ready?
red, white and black doors are the tried and true, but what happens when you want to step out of the norm?
one of my go-to favs for gray houses is an orange door. whether you have a traditional or a modern home, this color combination is a winner every time.
it’s more unexpected than red, but has just as much impact.
my favorite color is green, but when it comes to door colors, i find green can be tricky.
i think it looks the best on a white house with black trim. if your home is heavily landscaped, a green door can blend into the surroundings; i don’t like blending in!
make a sunny statement with yellow. this color always pops…
a blue door is a dynamic choice; there are so many hues to choose from!
the palest shades of robin’s egg or aqua are unexpected and refined. the bolder shades of cobalt and royal are refreshing.
why not try purple?
once you’ve selected the color, don’t forget some interesting hardware; the jewelry of the door. it’s a great opportunity to further customize the look of your home.
here’s a hint, etsy is a great source for vintage knockers.
i had my own door replaced just this week. since my home is a mid-century style, a door with mid-century roots seemed the obvious choice.
i went with this pasadena door from crestview doors
(i customized it with solid glass instead of the standard fluted glass)
anyone who knows me, knows i didn’t leave the door natural birch.
take a look at this wow hue from benjamin moore, vermillion.
a bright red with a touch of orange; it looks amazing!
i completed the look with this super modern cylinder knob from baldwin. it’s chunky and substantial and it looks perfect with the style of my house!
just remember, paint is an easy and inexpensive change. don’t be afraid to push the envelope when selecting the color for your front door; it’s a great way to let your personality shine and welcome your guests at the same time!
