ashley’s house: mini bathroom makeover

the downstairs bathroom has been quite an eyesore ever since we moved in almost two years ago.  i wasn’t sure what i wanted to do to it, so it was put on the back burner for a while.  after completing the ‘One Room Challenge’ this spring, i realized removing the bead board paneling wasn’t something i was up to doing again.

i also wasn’t up for a major renovation with our wedding reception party looming.  simple, but effective tweaks were my goal.  a few small changes really made a huge difference, take a look…

when i saw this wallpaper, i HAD to use it. this small bathroom was the perfect spot…

the original vanity was a hot mess and blocked part of the doorway.  this sleek version from ikea fits perfectly in the small space and makes the room feel much bigger.

i’ve been collecting animal heads anytime i go into @homegoods, and have acquired several. since they’re metal, they take spray paint like a charm. a coat of metallic gold instantly ups their glam factor.

i had my seamstress make this shower curtain. i fell in love with the saffron and white palette, and the horizontal stripes of course!

when deciding on art for the room, i grabbed this vintage piece that belonged to mark’s father. the black mat ties into the wallpaper and really pops on the wall. i love having something that means so much to mark in the room, plus it’s unique.

i found this awesome sconce from #triple7recycled on etsy.  swoon…  i needed a smaller scale mirror to fit above the panelling, but still allow you to see yourself.  while browsing @westelm, i saw this new introduction.  i loved there was no frame to visually clutter the wallpaper.  remember, clean and simple was my goal.  while my installer was hanging the paper, i rushed to my local west elm and picked it up in time for him to hang it for me 🙂

i couldn’t be more pleased with the end result. the space seems so much brighter too. a total transformation in less than a week, love it! design swell. live well.
