i just put the final touches on my install for mike and summer shelton. we added some elements to the foyer at the end of the project, so i wanted to wait and photograph everything at once. i spent the morning at their lake tillery home yesterday; take a look at their foyer and family room now and how we got there…
as a refresher, you can read the entire back story here. we kept the golden yellow wall color, since their house is open concept and all the walls flow together. pulling natural colors from sand and surf, i started with this amazing jonathan adler for kravet fabric. not only does it capture all the colors i wanted to use, it has a bergallo-esque design reminiscent of waves.
add a few more patterns to the mix…
the shelton’s have a one-year-old, so having a soft rug underfoot was key. the neutral tones of this graphic striped rug was the perfect grounding element to define the seating area.
after adding a new sectional, some accent furniture and a few accessories, the room looks like this…
and now the foyer…
the long expanse of wall leading to the family room needed more substantial pieces. i suggested flanking a new console with x-benches for more seating. an awkward nook beside the stair became another cozy seating area, perfect for overflow when entertaining. we also switched out the overly ornate sconces to something more in keeping with the shelton’s tastes.
the family pet wasted no time making himself at home on the new rug. happy customers all around, can’t ask for more than that! i’m looking forward to more projects with the sheltons, stay tuned! design swell. live well.
