for those of you not familiar with the ‘one room challenge’ let me get you up to speed! linda, of the blog calling it home, hosts this event twice a year. she assembles 20 design bloggers to make over one room in a six-week period. each week, the bloggers post their progress and you can follow along. linda has graciously opened this event to anyone willing to accept the challenge and i’ve jumped on board, renovating the guest bathroom in my house. i’m a little nervous, but totally excited about this!!!
a little info on the room…
our mid century home was a ‘flip’ and we all know what goes along with a flip, usually less than stellar craftsmanship, blah finishes and builder-basic fixtures. not exactly designer-friendly! i will say, it could be worse, but this room is so not up to par with the rest of our house i’ve spent the past year working on (feel free to check it out here).
this is technically the guest bath, but it’s also the only bathroom in the house with a tub, which means this is also the kids’ bath. i also get ready in this room everyday; hair and makeup. can i just say, beadboard panelling has NO place in a mid century house, what were these guys thinking???
on my to-do list for this bathroom:
- remove the beadboard panelling
- retile the shower (you’ll see why in a minute)
- install new sconces at eye level
- install a new mirror
- install a new vanity
- retile the floors
- paint and wallpaper
that’s quite a list for a six-week redo, but my contractor is on board and i’m ready! check out my design board for the room. there will be color, but i’m keeping that a surprise, you’ll have to follow along each week to see what i have up my sleeve!
i bet you’re wondering about this…no, we didn’t buy the house in this state.
back in february, the screw inside the hot water knob became stripped and the water wouldn’t turn off, NOT GOOD. the shower fixture had to be replaced, which meant removing some of the old tiles. instead of patching them back, i told my contractor to leave the tub in a temporary state knowing i would be replacing everything before too long. my oldest said it looked like we lived in a cabin, he’s seven. goodbye plywood, hello new tile!
